Honoring Deacon Lawrence Klimecki

Dear Chesterton Academy of Sacramento Community,

For those of you who have not yet heard, our beloved art teacher, Deacon Lawrence Klimecki died suddenly this past Wednesday. Please pray for the repose of his soul, and for divine comfort for his wife, son, and all who love him.  We will pass along any funeral information once we get it.

Deacon Lawrence was a great artist, but more importantly, he believed in finding God in the beauty of art and creation. We were so blessed to have him teach at our school. As an iconographer, he attempted to pierce the veil, helping us see the Divine through the beauty of art. Those of us who knew him in his service as deacon to Presentation parish could see in his every reverent gesture and posture a desire to make the liturgy as beautiful as possible.  He was a fine and inspiring preacher.

If we wish to honor Deacon Lawrence and his holy work, I suggest we, like him, view our role at Mass as one worthy of every beauty we can bring to it. This includes our appearance, our posture, our reverences, and our prayers. Do we genuflect with purpose? Stand in reverence? Pray like we mean it? I for one will try to find small ways to make my participation at Mass more beautiful in memory of Deacon Lawrence.
