Sacred Music at Chesterton Academy
At Chesterton Academy of Sacramento, all students take four years of music, with an emphasis on liturgical music: Gregorian chant, polyphony, psalmody, and hymnody. Students are introduced to the great western musical tradition and sing music ranging from the early Medieval period up to the modern day. Students learn sight-reading skills, music notation, and singing technique. Because Chesterton Academy is a school centered around the liturgy, music becomes more than just another subject; it serves as a way to aid the local community in worship during Mass.
The Chesterton Schola Cantorum
The Schola Cantorum is made up of sixteen talented and driven Chesterton students who wish to further their musical education and sing more challenging music. The Schola is dedicated to bringing the glory of the Catholic musical tradition out of the classroom and into the community. In addition to school events like our annual gala, and our Advent and Easter performances, the Schola has performed (or assisted at Mass) at a number of local parishes and diocesan events including St. Lawrence the Martyr, Holy Family, St. Rose of Lima, and St. Mary's Cemetery.
Invite the Schola to Sing at Your Parish
