FAQ

What is Chesterton Academy of Sacramento?

Chesterton Academy of Sacramento (CAS) is a joyfully Catholic, classical high school. CAS is part of the Chesterton Schools Network. Inspired by Saint Pope John Paul II, we take as our motto Cultura Vitae, the culture of life. We make it our mission to prepare our students to triumph over the materialism and despair that pervade our culture and to accept our Lord’s offer to have life and have it abundantly. Our classical curriculum combines a liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on the development of Christian virtues and an appreciation of beauty.

Who is G.K. Chesterton?

Great question! You can find out more about our namesake’s wit and wisdom here.

Is CAS a Catholic School?

Yes! According to canon law, the local Bishop has sole ecclesiastical authority to recognize and designate a school as “Catholic” within the geographic territory of the Diocese, and all Catholic schools within the Diocese are canonically responsible to the Bishop. Bishop Soto has recognized CAS as a Catholic school.

Is CAS a Diocesan School?

While CAS is recognized and approved by the Bishop of Sacramento as a Private Catholic School in the Diocese of Sacramento, it is owned and operated by a Board of Directors, an entity legally distinct from the Diocese.

Is CAS an In-Person School?

CAS offers an in-person Catholic education.  Chesterton Academy of Sacramento is located adjacent to St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish in North Highlands (4325 Don Julio Blvd, North Highlands, 95660).

Is There a Distance or a Homeschool/Hybrid Component?

No, although the Chesterton Schools Network has launched a distance learning high school in the Chesterton Academy model. You can find out more information here.

Will CAS Be Accredited?

All Chesterton Network Schools are accredited through the National Association of Private, Catholic, and Independent Schools (NAPCIS), and are recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society Catholic Education Honor Roll (CEHR). CAS has recently begun the process to establish accreditation candidacy through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This process of self-study and analysis should be completed in three years. In addition, CAS is actively pursuing A-G recognition through the University of California system.

What IS THE Tuition?

CAS is committed to offering an excellent and affordable Catholic education. Individual annual tuition for the 2024-2025 school year is $9,300. Tuition for two siblings concurrently enrolled is $16,750. The annual enrollment fee is $750/family.

How Big Will The School Be? Class Sizes?

CAS will, God willing, grow each year with a potential for about 200 total students. Given the discussion based, Socratic format of classes, class sizes of less than about 25 students are desirable.

How Many Grades DOES School Have?

CAS opened with both underclassmen (grades 9-10) and upperclassmen (11-12).

What Sports and Extracurriculars ARE Offered?

At Chesterton Academy of Sacramento, we believe that participation in athletics is part of a well-rounded high school experience. We offer many opportunities to participate in team sports. Students can compete in girls’ volleyball and co-ed cross country in the fall, followed by both boys’ and girls’ basketball in the winter, and co-ed track in the spring. We are members of the California Interscholastic Federation, and have an Athletic Director on staff to facilitate our program.

Extracurricular clubs are also an important part of building culture and community. Our students have shown initiative in forming the following clubs: Schola Cantorum (honors choir), GK Journal (newspaper), The Lantern (yearbook), band, dance, chess, garden, Pro-Life, and Band of Brothers.
