Joseph Moore

Headmaster, Music, Art

Mr. Moore graduated from the Great Books Program at St. John’s College, and holds a Master’s Degree in International Business and Finance from San Francisco State University. His passion for the arts led him to study music composition and theory, attend art school, and work for three years at an oratory established to promote the Catholic liturgy through art and music. He spent his professional career working as an executive at a software company in the Bay Area. Most recently, he taught history and literature to high schoolers at the start-up Tria Corda Academy in Walnut Creek.

Cristina Acosta

Advancement Director

Cristina Acosta was raised in Sacramento and graduated from St. Francis High School. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from CSU Sacramento and Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Italian from the University of California, Davis.

Mrs. Acosta has nearly 20 years of experience managing programs for public and non-profit organizations. For the past three years, she has served as a founding board member of Chesterton Academy of Sacramento, organizing early school recruitment efforts, fundraising campaigns and events, and marketing communications. She is passionate about sharing the school’s mission with all who are seeking a joyfully Catholic education for their children.

Mrs. Acosta has been married to her husband, Miguel, for 23 years. They have four beautiful children, the oldest of which are saints-in-the-making at Chesterton Academy of Sacramento.

Teresa Eggers

Drama, Social Dance

Mrs. Teresa Eggers holds bachelors degrees in music and theatre arts, both from Benedictine College, and has a professional conservatory certificate from the Los Angeles branch of Stella Adler Acting Studios. She has worked in education since 2016, including for Kolbe Academy Homeschool and at St. Monica Academy in Southern California.

While living in the Los Angeles area, Mrs. Eggers developed a passion for social dancing. She used her background in ballet, jazz, tap, and musical theatre to learn several styles of swing at some of the world-famous swing dances and conventions in the area.

She and her husband, John, had the lack of foresight to plan a big wedding for the spring of 2020, but following their tiny wedding they moved to the Sacramento area. They have one rambunctious toddler.

 
 
 

John S. Hamlon

Theology

Mr. Hamlon has an MA in Theology from the University of San Francisco (USF) and did doctoral work in Theology at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. From 1994 to 2001, he was the associate director of the St. Ignatius Institute at USF. From 2006 to 2011, he taught and administered at the University of Sacramento. Among the courses he taught were “Introduction to the Catechism of the Catholic Church,” “Christian Ethics,” and “The Philosophy & Theology of Marriage & Family.”

Mr. Hamlon has directed national and international conferences on marriage and family at St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN, and also directed the marriage prep program for the Diocese of St. Cloud, MN. He is the author of A Call to Families: A Commentary and Study Guide for Familiaris Consortio.

Presently he teaches classes in philosophy, theology, and Christian literature at Easter’s Faith Formation Center in Citrus Heights, CA.

Sarah Holowecky

School Administrator/Office Manager

Sarah Holowecky earned a BS in Biology from the University of San Francisco, as well as a certificate from the St. Ignatius Institute’s Great Books Program. She taught junior high at Holy Spirit School, and has several years of administrative assistant experience. Keith and Sarah have been married for sixteen years and have five children. Catholic education, and its role in forming future saints, is an important part of their vocation as a family. She is a founding CAS Board member and an active parishioner at Presentation Church.

Magdalena Huckins

Biology, History

Born and raised in Auburn, California, Magdalena Huckins went far to receive a B. A. in classical Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College in Northfield, MA. She is excited to return to her home state and apply the principles she received from her college and high school education to teaching in her own classroom. One of six children, she has a love for life, the Faith, family, and the beautiful Sierra Foothills where she grew up.

 
 
 

Jane Lee

Math

Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Jane also used her time in college to found the first Ultralight Symposium in the LA region and participate in student-research on in-ground effects for V/STOL aircraft.  Working on the early design phase of the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber (Static Loads; Weapon Systems - nuclear gust loads; and computer simulation), supporting God's design of parents as His heart and hands as a monthly guest on the Bishop's Hour with Bob Dunning for 14 years, giving parish retreats for mothers (Keeping the Holidays Holy; Invisible Altars; Helping Your Kids Connect to the Mass) and helping kindergarten to pre-Calc students bridge the abyss of math for 28 years, the largest contribution Jane feels she has made is in her work as a mother.

Brady Lendewig

Humanities, Latin, Debate

Brady Lendewig was raised in the Sacramento Area, where he attended Holy Family Catholic School, graduated from John Adams Academy in Roseville in 2016, and earned his BA from CSU Sacramento in 2019. From there he discerned priesthood with the Diocese of Sacramento at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon, resigning formation after one year to discern a monastic vocation at Silverstream Benedictine Priory in County Meath, Ireland. Brady met his wife Anna Kate in January of 2021, and in January 2022 they were married. Brady and Anna Kate are now expecting their first child. Brady’s Great Books education at John Adams Academy awakened in him a passion for education, Socratic discussion, and the classics. He looks forward to sharing and fostering the academic interests of his students, nurturing them in their vocational discernment, and contributing to a prayerful and joyful culture in and outside the discussion room.

Peter Mendenhall

Chemistry

A native of Fair Oaks, California, Mr. Mendenhall earned a BS degree in Chemistry from UC Davis and worked for 43 years in the chemical industry. His assignments included chemical lab process research, analytical lab management, Mini-Plant operations, industrial hygiene and safety management for three chemical production plants, and safety management for pharmaceutical and biopesticide research companies.

Currently an active parishioner at Presentation Church in Sacramento, he has skillfully served in several leadership roles within the Knights of Columbus and is dedicated to the pro-life movement. He is a lifelong learner and celebrates life surrounded by his wife of 51 years, three grown daughters, and 11 grandchildren.

 
 
 

Thomas Moore

Geometry, Philosophy, Theology, Literature, Physics

Mr. Moore completed his BA in Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College with a double major in Theology and Philosophy. Throughout his time at TAC, Mr. Moore developed a love for classical education and a desire to share this joy through teaching. After graduating, he moved to Massachusetts to help found his alma mater’s new campus were he served as a resident director, and married his wife and fellow alumnus, Kathleen.  The Moores then moved to Denver, Colorado where Mr. Moore pursued his MA in Theology at the Augustine Institute. He graduated summa cum laude in the spring of 2023. Mr. and Mrs. Moore were recently blessed by the birth of their first daughter, Margaret.

Mr. Moore is particularly interested in the philosophy of mathematics, epistemology in empirical science, and Marian theology. He enjoys road and trail cycling, classical music, and playing the guitar very poorly.

Greta Munsill

Literature, History

Greta Munsill received her AB from Stanford University, where she completed coursework in the liberal arts as part of Stanford’s then-required core curriculum in Western Civilization. She received her JD from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. After practicing law for a few years, her life’s work shifted from law to education. For 28 years, she homeschooled her 9 children, using mainly a classical education approach. For 15 years of that time, she led a monthly discussion group for high school students, which included great books, essays, plays, epic poems, the U.S. Constitution, and important U.S. Supreme Court decisions. She also taught CCD for many years and a class in Rhetoric and Debate.  

Mrs. Munsill wears many hats. For over 16 years, she has arranged altar flowers for her parish. When not reading, she enjoys tending vegetables and chasing chickens on her urban farm. Most of all, she treasures the many adventures, museum trips, crafts and books that she shares with her grandchildren (10 at last count).

Patrick Murray

Literature, Philosophy, Theology, Music, Choir

Mr. Patrick Murray graduated from CSU Sacramento in 2019, with a degree in Music Education. In 2020 he obtained a teaching credential and has taught band, choir, and piano for three years in a public middle school. Mr. Murray was a member of the Schola Cantorum at Sacred Heart Church, and has sung intermittently with St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. He currently sings and plays trumpet in a successful jazz band.

 
 
 

Dean Perkins

Athletic Director

Formerly the Athletic Director at Oakmont High School for 12 years, Dean has coached varsity baseball for 26 years, football for 20 years, and girls' golf for one year. As a father of two grown children, and grandfather of ten, Dean continues to coach various ages and sports. He lives in Roseville with his wife, Kathy, and still enjoys teaching mathematics part-time at Sierra College. He has been the head coach of the boys' basketball team here at Chesterton for two years, and is excited about the prospect of growing the program as the new AD.

"Athletics, along with drama and music, complete a well-rounded education. As we grow, Chesterton Academy of Sacramento will eventually compete against schools of similar size in a Sac-Joaquin section league," he says.

Jeffrey Scudder

Math, Science

Cross Country and Track Coach

Major Jeffrey Scudder, US Air Force (Retired) holds two Bachelor degrees — one in Mathematics and one in Computer Science — and a Master’s of Science in Applied Mathematics from California State University at Hayward (East Bay). He also holds a MBA from the University of Nebraska. He completed a 20-year Air Force Career as a Software Engineer and Communications Officer and has seven years’ experience as a military member and contractor living and serving in many foreign countries in Europe and the Middle East. He has taught mathematics and computer science instruction at the University level.

Mr. Scudder is a devout Catholic who looks to his faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ in daily prayer and long-term decision making. He a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jeffrey and his wife Madeline are blessed with three beautiful daughters, Nancie, Frances, and Anna, as well as a granddaughter, Gia; a grandson, Roscoe; and son-in-law, Marcus.
