Chesterton Academy of Sacramento Awards the White Horse Cup for 2022-2023
This past weekend, Chrysostom and Athanasius Houses were announced as the co-recipients of the White Horse Cup for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Ignatius Birdsall and Sarah Cummings, prefects of Chrysostom House, and Liam Lendewig and Elizabeth Francois, prefects of Athanasius house, received the trophy on behalf of the student and faculty members of their houses.
There are four Houses at Chesterton Academy of Sacramento; the others are Ambrose and Augustine. House points are awarded at the Headmaster's discretion, taking the following points into consideration:
Did a student perform a spontaneous act of virtue?
Was the project student-driven?
Did it get the whole school involved?
How much work was involved?
Did it involve meaningful service to the community?
While families are important members of the Houses, emphasis is placed on student-led activities. Parents can suggest and support projects, but leadership of and work on projects is students’ responsibility.
The school’s House system is drawn from the thousand-year-old tradition of Christian education exemplified in the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge. The Houses provide real, tangible community within the larger school, giving students the opportunity to take ownership, fulfill the call to leadership, and cultivate the ideal conditions for virtue.
