KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Ryan Mayer is Director of the Office of Catholic Identity Assessment & Formation for the Archdiocese of San Francisco where he works closely with the Department of Catholic Schools to strengthen what makes Catholic schools unique, their Catholic identity, and to foster the courage to follow the consequences of that uniqueness. Ryan has consulted with a number of schools and Catholic school leaders on Catholic identity, mission, and school culture.
Before working for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, he spent twenty years as a high school teacher and administrator, teaching courses on theology, bioethics, literature, philosophy, and the works of G.K. Chesterton. Ryan received an integrated, liberal arts formation at Mt. Angel Seminary and was the first student in the school’s history to triple-major in philosophy, theology, and literature. He holds graduate degrees in theology and philosophy as well as a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Notre Dame (where Chesterton was once a visiting lecturer). Ryan is completing a licentiate in bioethics from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome and holds certification in health care ethics with distinction from the National Catholic Bioethics Center. He has published on bioethics in the National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly and the St. John Paul II Journal of Bioethics.
Ryan is Vice-Chairman and a founding board member of the Board of Directors of Chesterton Academy of Sacramento. He and his wife Melissa have four children who attend Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary School. Their oldest son will, God willing, be a freshman at Chesterton Academy of Sacramento next fall.
