Athletic Director
Summary
Chesterton Academy of Sacramento seeks a faithful, organized, and mission-driven Athletic Director to lead and grow the school's athletic program in a manner consistent with our Catholic identity and classical educational mission.
The Athletic Director is responsible for the planning, organization, administration, and oversight of all athletic programs. Working closely with the Headmaster, coaches, parents, and student-athletes, the Athletic Director ensures that athletics serve as an extension of the school's mission by fostering virtue, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and joyful competition.
This is a part-time position with flexibility based on the athletic calendar. Evening and weekend availability is required during athletic seasons.
Primary Responsibilities
Athletic Program Leadership
Develop, organize, and oversee all interscholastic athletic programs.
Ensure that the athletic program reflects the mission and philosophy of Chesterton Academy of Sacramento.
Recruit, interview, recommend, supervise, and evaluate coaches.
Conduct preseason meetings and provide ongoing support and formation for coaches.
Promote a culture of virtue, sportsmanship, respect, and servant leadership throughout the athletic program.
Ensure compliance with all league, CIF, and applicable governing body rules and regulations.
Student-Athlete Support
Verify student-athlete eligibility, including academic, medical, and behavioral requirements.
Encourage the balanced development of students by supporting excellence in academics, athletics, and Christian character.
Work collaboratively with the Headmaster, faculty, coaches, and parents to support student success.
Address student, parent, and coach concerns with professionalism, charity, and a commitment to reconciliation.
Athletic Operations
Coordinate athletic schedules, practices, contests, tournaments, and transportation.
Arrange officials, game workers, and facility needs for home contests.
Oversee game-day operations, including event management and spectator conduct.
Coordinate athletic awards, recognition events, and end-of-season celebrations.
Maintain accurate team rosters and athletic records.
Facilities and Equipment
Oversee the purchase, inventory, distribution, maintenance, and storage of athletic equipment and uniforms.
Coordinate use and reservation of practice and competition facilities.
Communicate facility maintenance and safety needs to school administration.
Promote safe athletic environments and appropriate risk management practices.
Budget and Administration
Prepare and manage the annual athletic budget in consultation with school leadership.
Practice responsible stewardship of school resources.
Coordinate fundraising activities for athletics in collaboration with school leadership and parent volunteers.
Maintain athletic policies, forms, and the Athletic Handbook, updating them annually as needed.
Communication and Community Relations
Serve as the primary liaison between the Athletic Department, administration, coaches, families, and league officials.
Communicate schedules, policies, and athletic updates in a timely and professional manner.
Promote school spirit and encourage participation in athletic events.
Represent Chesterton Academy positively within the local community and athletic organizations.
Working Relationships
The Athletic Director reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), or to the Board of Directors or its designated committee.
The Athletic Director works closely with the Headmaster, faculty, coaches, parents, volunteers, and other members of the administrative team in supporting the mission of the school.
Qualifications
Required
Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
Commitment to the mission of Catholic classical education.
Bachelor's degree.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to supervise coaches, organize multiple athletic programs, and work effectively with students, parents, and volunteers.
Ability to resolve conflicts with professionalism, charity, and discretion.
Preferred
Five or more years of experience coaching or administering athletics at the high school or collegiate level.
Experience with athletic scheduling, budgeting, event management, fundraising, and volunteer coordination.
Familiarity with CIF regulations and high school athletic administration.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Compensation
Part-time position. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
